Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Bill receives Royal Assent

1. The Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Bill has now become an Act of Parliament after receiving Royal Assent on 29 June 2023.1‘Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023 Royal Assent – Parliamentary Bills – UK Parliament’ , accessed 5 July 2023  

2. The Act:

  1. requires local authorities in England to review supported housing in their areas and develop strategies;
  2. provides for the creation of a national expert advisory panel to advise on matters related to supported housing;
  3. gives the Secretary of State power to introduce national support standards;
  4. gives local authorities power to create local licensing schemes for exempt accommodation; and
  5. gives the Secretary of State an option to introduce a new planning Use-Class for exempt accommodation.
