Welsh Government guidance on extending licences in supported accommodation

1. On 28 September 2022 the Welsh Government issued guidance for providers of supported accommodation to extend the period(s) before a licence agreement must become an occupation contract (from 1 December).1Welsh Government, 28 September 2022, Guidance, Supported accommodation: exceptional approach to extending the relevant period for a tenancy or licence

Accommodation is classed as supported accommodation if:2Welsh Government, 28 September 2022, Guidance, Supported accommodation: exceptional approach to extending the relevant period for a tenancy or licence, para. 2

  1. it is provided by a community landlord or a registered charity,
    the landlord or charity (or a person acting on behalf of the landlord or charity)
  2. provides support services to a person entitled to occupy the accommodation, and
  3. there is a connection between provision of the accommodation and provision of the support services.

3. This is particularly relevant to providers of transitional supported housing.
