1. Intentional communities, also known as communes or co-living communities, are groups of people who choose to live together with a common purpose or goal.

2. These communities can take many forms, such as co-housing1‘Home’ (UK Cohousing Network), accessed 29 January 2023 ecovillages, co-ops, and collective households.

Ideologies and Lifestyles

3. Intentional communities can be based on a variety of ideologies or lifestyles, such as environmental sustainability, spiritual or religious beliefs, political or social activism, or simply a desire to live in a more cooperative and supportive environment.
